Igatpuri is a hilly town in the Western Ghats situated in the Nashik of Maharashtra, on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway, 47 km south of Nashik, 130km away from Mumbai. This pleasant hilly town is surrounded by mountains, dense forests, and green valleys. This beautiful hilly hamlet has numerous sightseeing attractions. This magnificent hamlet attracts visitors due to its green mountains, ancient complexes, dazzling waterfalls, and a major spiritual center. Igatpuri is popular for the Vipassana International Academy, the headquarters of the world’s largest Vipassana meditation institute. It teaches some form of meditation which was first taught by Gautam Buddha in the 6th century BC. It is a great attraction in Igatpuri and is known as Dhammagiri.

Tringalwadi Fort is one of the famous places to visit in Igatpuri.  This temple is situated behind the Ghatandevi Temple at an altitude of 3000 ft above sea level. Tringalwadi Fort is supposed to have been built in the 10th century. The height of the fort serves a beautiful scenic view of the Konkan and Nashik routes. Hiking and trekking enthusiasts often reach the top of the fort that looks like a turban

Vaitarna Dam:

The Vaitarna Dam is a well-known tourist spot of Igatpuri. It is situated on the Vaitarna River close to Igatpuri.  It has great value as it is the first gravity dam that built-in the year 1950. The height of the dam is 41 m (135 ft).

Igatpuri has the world’s largest meditation centerVipassana Institute. This center is nestled in Igatpuri on Mumbai-Agra Highway, 136 km away from Mumbai, 45 km away from Nashik. It is founded by S. N. Goenka, in 1976. Vipassana Institute is also famous as Dhammagiri, which means the hill of Dhamma. Vipassana is an ancient technique of meditation in India. The hills in the valley are ideal trekking spots for trekking enthusiasts and adventure lovers.  In Bhatsa River Valley, there is a temple dedicated to the goddess of the Ghat called Ghatandevi Mandir.
